Mesh Refinement

Following my classmate's critiques of the 10 objects made in tinkercad, I decided to refine my 'toothbrush'. Overall it was considered an effective design by the people I spoke with and I enjoy the concept of it as well, so I decided to go further with it. A suggestion that was made was to put holes or hair in the teeth to make it more unsettling. I thought this was an excellent idea and added cavities as well as some discolouration to the teeth, I also added some texture to the brush itself to really push the uncomfortable feel of the piece. Having mashed together to previously existing objects, this object is a remix and thus a product of remix culture. I've found the process of exploring mashups/remix very fun and I'm glad creating such things are encouraged by others online. In this object I wanted to create something easy to imagine in use, and disconcerting, the juxtaposition of a hairbrush and human teeth does this very effectively in my opinion. Original

Remix Culture

To my understanding, remix culture refers to people being able to combine existing materials to create something entirely new, it can be physical objects, music, etc. I find that remix culture is a great thing, it provides great potential for comedy and people can create some really interesting things! I enjoyed doing this assignment! Here are my mashups, 1. I wanted to create a creature that was somewhat eldritch in nature and equal parts scary/goofy. I've always liked the look of the legs of objects having hand-like features, so I wanted to push that with this lamp and use an actual hand as the base of the lamp. Papercraft Prototype

While constructing the prototype of my papercraft object, I encountered several obstacles that I will need to revise for the final version, but overall I am happy with how it turned out. Cutting and scoring the paper was by far the most time-consuming part of the process. All the parts of the boombox/cassette player are cut out and ready to glue together. Glueing the pieces together was very difficult, especially with the smaller objects. I will definitely have to adjust the size of these when creating the final object. Here is the constructed object. It's somewhat rough-looking, but overall I like how it turned out! Some things I will have to adjust for the final object: - Remove tabs in some areas, add tabs in others - Change the size of buttons/dials or make them flat details instead - Add flat details - Change the size of the handle - Change the size of the body etc.
