Remix Culture

To my understanding, remix culture refers to people being able to combine existing materials to create something entirely new, it can be physical objects, music, etc. I find that remix culture is a great thing, it provides great potential for comedy and people can create some really interesting things!

I enjoyed doing this assignment! Here are my mashups,

1.

I wanted to create a creature that was somewhat eldritch in nature and equal parts scary/goofy. I had originally intended for the dragon portion to be a bat, but unfortunately, all the bat models I found were too large.

2.

I've always liked the look of the legs of objects having hand-like features, so I wanted to push that with this lamp and use an actual hand as the base of the lamp. Something about the idea of having it scuttle around to provide light amuses me.

3.

Weird furniture is very endearing to me, and upon loading up vertebrae models I had a great idea for a weird macabre chair! It's incredibly eccentric but I really like the concept and could see myself owning one.

4.

I found the concept of skulls/bones growing in the place of flowers to be interesting, I often like to explore themes of life/death in my work and I thought a prominent image of death on cut flower stems would be interesting!

I'd had the idea to replace the heels of a shoe with antlers, but thought it looked a little too simple, so I stuck a deer's head to the front. Take it as a commentary on humans treading into natural areas and incidentally killing wildlife, or take it as just a goofy shoe.

6.

I wanted to create an object used daily by many people and make it into something incredibly uncomfortable to use. Not entirely meant to be useful, and possibly just decorative, I thought a face being used as a mug would be a little disconcerting.

7.

The imagery of a car running around with human legs is incredibly funny to me, I think it would be an interesting thing to see so I created this with the intention of the viewer imaging the ways it could move around.

8.

I wanted to create yet another object that would be uncomfortable to imagine using, though this time I wanted to focus on tactility. Just imagine a bunch of human teeth on your scalp or skin, it's rather strange and I wanted to make this object evoke that feeling.

9.

I thought this would be funny, and wanted to make something completely nonsensical. My original intent was to put the toilet on a motorcycle but they didn't work quite like I wanted. Though I definitely think this is the funnier option.

10.

This is actually inspired by a song I listened to while making some of the other objects, 'Pork Soda' by Glass Animals. I attempted to express some of the lyrics visually by creating this object.
